3 Idiots: A Review

Well i am an idiot.. and now i am proud of it.. thanks to 3 Idiots..

Finally we have a movie on college life minus swanky cars, hot chicks, pubs.. in short a more realistic one. I like movie's take on the current education system which is hijacked by marks and grades, where the only success mantra is 'ratta-fication', importance of chasing excellence instead of success and following one's heart. The professors need to be more practical rather than following the age old concepts of teaching. Its important for them to realise that apart from teaching subjects, they have a key role to play in moulding the future citizens of our country. Parents are equally to be blamed for the plight of their kids.. who are under immense pressure to do well in studies and get a high paying job.

3 Idiots is a must watch... for someone who has studied in a college or lived in hostel...for this movie is sure to take you back to your own college days.. missing this movie is a crime..  The moviemakers seem to know the pulse of the audience better than anybody else in the whole industry..with the perfect timing of emotional ups and downs, songs and break.. the first half of the movie is a laughter riot. particulary the speech Silencer gives in a college function.. and the sanskrit shlok that follows...Madhavan and Sharman have been excellent.. Sharman in particular has matured as an actor.. and we all know how well Aamir does his job.. so no surprises there. Kareena.. though in a smaller role (which she is not used to) is really sweet.

Raju Hirani has written a fanastic story... first Jaadu ki Jhappi then Gandhi giri and now All Izz Well. Full marks to him. However, i feel and you would agree that the character of Silencer was a 'bit' overdone. just a 'bit'.. The background score and music is awesome.. there are some emotional touchy scenes which would make your eyes moist.. specially the one where Sharman (after getting job) and Madhavan (after convincing his parents that he wants to be a photographer) drop their pants and salute Aamir showing their asses in their trademark college ragging style. Though this scene is supposed to be funny but in the context of the story.. it gives lump in your throat..

by far..best movie of the year ... a must watch! njoy the movie and c ya soon.

A trip to Chandigarh

When i look back and think about the cities i visited in last few years two cities come my mind. Udaipur & Chandigarh. Both very beautiful, clean and peaceful as compared to its peers and both of them have been recently visited by me. But there are few other things becoz of which i am more attracted towards Chandigarh the capital of Haryana & Punjab also referred as The City Beautiful.

Unlike majority of the cities of our country it has no history. Chandigarh is young, cool and happening. You would definately fall in love with this city. There are no traffic snarls, no high rise buildings, no pollution. One of my colleague told me that police in chandigarh is very alert. They might raid your house even if you are using the in your home a chimney of small size which is used to prepare tandoori roti. As a tax payer u feel great that you money is not being wasted.

During my visit i got nostalgic after reaching Sec-17. When i was in college we (Bangla, Shreejit, Tushant & me) made a trip to this city to watch the latest bollywood (as if you only watch hollywood) flick (now you are ultra modern coz u have left 'picture' and 'movie' behind) featuring Preity Zinta - Veer-Zaara in the cold winter of Nov'04. The best a hardcore PZ fan could have done. We caught a night bus from Hamirpur and reached Chandigarh by m'ing. Watched movie, visited Tushant's uncles place, went to Sec-17 market and with so many beautiful babes around it was quite an experience. Sec-17 reminds me of Bangla's favourite bar - The Blue Ice' and his fav. cocktail - Pink Panties. He went crazy from the time he entered the bar.

The girls here are really beautiful unlike their delhi counterparts who are smart but lack natural beauty which one would associate with the punjabi kudis. The night life is cool with girls also hanging out till late night in pubs, a delight for guy like me. People here are wealthy, infact it has the highest per-capita income if i am not wrong. There are some beautiful places in and around the city like Sukhna lake, rock garden which i am yet to explore. The city has a lot of green cover which you can easily notice on both sides of the road. The climate here is very pleasent and on a whole the city is quite peaceful.

Truely The City Beautiful and City For Everybody!

Pocket mein Rocket hai

Well... this blog is inspired from Rocket Singh - Salesman of the Year promo...and more so coz i m into sales.. and i believe sales people are unique creatures...

We are the only people who get paid for speaking lies.. and probably that is why people love this profession and is the most challenging job bcoz u need to keep a track of lies u have spoken to different people. And to add to it u have variable salary which is directly proportion to the no. of lies u speak.. What a profession!!
But on a serious note..though there is no specific skill set required for us.. but profession demands vast knowledge of various subjects specially current affairs, presence of mind, you need to be sharp, as my boss says -abiliy to CO-RELATE things/events, you should know how to screw a customer...and again.my boss's golden words 'baaton ko ghumana aana chahiye..' - u need to be manupulative... or u have a second option.. keep ur boss happy by becoming his pappu and just pretend to have all those qualities...

The song... 'pocket mein rocket hain'.,.. is aptly written for the sales community..every sales person can connect to this song and lyrics 'neendon mein bhi jaati nahi...bechne ki bimari ye'... turely dipict the feelings of the salesmen... Well speaking of sales and being a MONTH-END (an event which repeats 12 times in an year.. when saleman comes out of hibernation or he will have his a** kicked from his manager).. it reminds me of a new track (when u start using 'track' instead of 'song'... u hve bcom modern) from the movie (instead of 'picture'..) 3 Idiots called 'Jaane nahi denge tujhe'.. just listen to this track thinking 'tujhe' as an 'order'... and u would agree with me that this song shows the plight of a salesmen during month-end when he is short of 'ordres'... thanks Boss for teaching me 'CO-RELATION'...

The second word which i associate with sales after 'lies' is 'pretend'...
  • U pretend of doing things differently.. u like using USB mouse with laptop instead of touchpads... and the interesting part is.. u want ur company to pay for the USB mouse.
  • U pretend to be tech savvy...during the presentations u have to change slides with a remote and  not with laptop keyboard...
  • U have a flashy mobile phone with latest tech. ur official email id is integrated with it.. (courtsey ur Company) but when u r in office even for making a local call u will use the office landline phone even if u have to search the no. in ur mobile phone first...
but its not ur fault.. this profession demands u to pretend a lot that sometimes u pretend even when u dont have to..

In the end.. Rocket Singh in one of the promo says... duniya main sabse mushkil kaam hai bechna... which is very true...After watching the movie i may come up with more on movie and sales...Till then gud luck to all the salesmen.. and happy selling!!!

Trade Fair...The Urban Mela

So.. on a cold Sunday.. after waking up at the time in leave for office on weekdays.. i have an uphill task.. washing clothes.. wow! couldnt have asked for more...

after having a cup of tea and poha.. me n my roommate were out on a lazy afternoon.. only to reach Pragati Maidan for India Internation Trade Fair - 09 and shocked with the no. of people turning up at the Fair...Terming it as a 'lazy' afternoon was my mistake..

Queue for ticket (i had reached only midway)

As i stood in the long queue trying to catch hold of tickets.. eager and impatient.. the ticket counter was supposed to be closed in 30mins.. one gentlman pointing at the Metro station says there are more counters at the station and all are empty.. thank god i thought.. so there are some good helping people in Delhi.. or was he trying to prove that he is smarter than us.. in any case my frd gets tickets in 5mins... and we are off to entry gate no.8.

Finally we are in.. there you go.. the first hall we enter.. hall no. 8 if i correctly remember...more crowded than rajkot's jasmasthami mela... mamoth crowd.... Man! Delhi's gone crazy... standing infront of the stall for more than 10 secs... was in itself an achievement... and to my surprise ladies still managed to enquire and purchase the products... may be its their genes..

All in the name of politics!!

Want to become famous??.. all you need to do is.. form a 'political party'... oh! then u realize your party is not famous.. so to attract the attention party workers go on rampage... now.. media is after you and you and your party is famous... as simple as that.

http://www.indianexpress.com/news/MJP-does-a-Raj--disrupts-Tum-Mile-show-in-Rajkot/542607

and you are not done! so.. you threaten of more violence. This seems to be success formula of newly formed political parties. And I feel ashamed as an Indian when i read these kind of stories.. i wonder how come in Gandhi's country ppl can resort to such cheap politics just for the sake of publicity and votes.

As far as the incident is concerned nothing has been established regarding the involvement of Rahul Bhatt in 26/11.. in fact he himself has approached the investigating agencies and showed his willingness to help them.. when he came to know abt David Headley... so how does the question of stalling the screening of Mahesh Bhatt's movie arise.. this is utterly foolish...

What's more shocking is the fact that it happened in gujarat and particularly in my city rajkot... which easily is the most peaceful city in the state.. i hope people in the state are clever enough and they dont entertain such political parties.. i am sorry to say with due respect.. Mr. Godhan Zadafia... your Mahagujarat Janata Party's workers seem to be bunch sadakchap roudis..

My only request to you.. pls be sensible and stop doing a Raj Thackrey in Gujarat.

We want peace to prevail.

Everybody wants to be Sachin!

A big day for Indian Cricket... and bigger day for Sachin bhakts...

'Sir' Sachin Tendulkar completes 20 glorious years in internation cricket... a man every Indian is proud of... the hot property of 1 billion Indians... As you find Sachin in every news channel this weekend.. these people have gone crazy.. and more so his fans.

I remember the days when people switched off their TV sets when Sachin got out.. a ritual i proudly follow till date.. i wonder how many matches he has single handedly won for us.. for we owe a lot more to him than what we think of... a role model for many. throughout these 20 years he has been able to keep away from 'controversies'...

You are a true champion.. we just know 'when you are around... anything can happen' and you proved it in a delhi test match against pakistan..when you would take Kumble's pullover & cap and hand it to umpire beliveing that it would help Kumble take wicket.. and you managed to get a 'Perfect Ten' for him... who would forget both your innings at Sharjah against australians in 1998. who will forget your last over againt SA in 1993 hero cup final with just 6 runs to win... they manage to score only 2... Your unquestionable commitment that made you bat in Chennai against Pakis in the acute back pain...

There are great moments of your journey in this game..that make us feel proud of...thanks for everything... as Dhoni jokingly said - he would retire earlier than you... i hope it becomes true!!

We want you to go on and on and on....

First Times!!

From past few days.. i have been trying our new things.. or probably i should say there are lot of things which i have done or experienced for the first time...

watching a theatre.. wid sheryas & family and vishal & family...
going on a long drive...
went for bowling.. wid lakshman
planning to watch a movie at the very last minute.. and somehow managing to get the tickets..
enthusiastic about our cricket net practice... at last.

i now hate to site at home on a weekend.. i am so addicted to roaming... finally i know why i am in sales...

i have planned a few more things... will update as and when it happens...

Sachin! Prabhu of Cricket

evening of 05th Nov'09.... as i came back from office 'early' (around 6:45pm) as per my dept's standards.. i switch ON tv... Prabhu needing just 1 run to complete 17000 runs in ODIs... all the Hyderabad fans on the edge of the seats...and whole of India praying for Legend (just wondering how busy God is kept when Sachin bats) ... as the little master gently steers the ball on the leg side..runs a comfortable single...this is it...the crowd erupts with joy... their prayers heard... what a moment!!

having completed landmark 7 runs on that day... now it was time to unfold the old Sachin.. the Sachin i knew when i was a 9-10 year old kid - opening batting for the first time in NZ and hammering the bowlers... that was it.. that knock was enough for me to become a Sachin Bhakt...
as he play's each and every cricketing shot in the book... it was an delightful evening... a pleasure to watch sachin the way he batted... austalians very completely lost in the aura of this man... with Ponting not leaving any bowling option left... and suddenly the target of 351 looked like 200... though India could not finish off in the end.. but it as Sachin's day.. scoring 175... more than half of what india scored... a bliztering knock.. the knock that would be remembered for a long long time... Thanks Sachin!

I know you were trying to impress my langotiya who was supporting you..sittin in front of TV...from your city...mumbai..

One fine day when you decide to hang your boots.... i will miss cricket!

Home Fweet Home!

Well.. i am at home... not as fweet as it used to be.. but i always cherish coming to rajkot as my heart belongs to rajkot... crowded yet clean, bustling with activity yet peaceful.. though i believe there hasnt been enough developement in terms of infra as compared to its peers like baroda and surat.. and city has not changed much in last 07-08 years..

So.. as it turns out Blue is not as glossy and thrilling as its promos... this was very much expected... All the best has the humor of the type you thought you left behind in the college canteen... still you can handle it... and i had much expectations from Main aur Mrs khanna...which eventually is very dull and directionless.. cant understand whts wrong with bollywood.. still Blue will be able to fool people who would just be blown away by its promos.. which will help it recover some of its cost.. after all its cost producers 80-100 crore...

As dad comes back from office... i need to recharge dish tv subscription.. signning off for now..

Happy Diwali!

Wake up Sid!

Gud m'ing! As i woke up at 5:50 today.. i went the the park nearby for a walk and jogging.. had a cup of tea and shared noodles with my roomate.. it feels good today..

Well.. i watched Wake Up Sid! last night.. (probably that is why i WOKE up so early)..mind blowing movie.. lighthearted, refreshing, fantabulous... as is its music..the movie will make you fall in love.. Bollywood is trying to come out of the 'new bottle old vine' success mantra..finally.. and it all began with Dil Chahta Hai... Wake up Sid being much less emotional... movie which u can relate to Hollywood romantic comedies.. and you can sense the feelgood factor from the word go.. the song 'ek tara' is very touchy.. the best in the movie..

The way Mumbai (and not Bombay...still unable to find the difference between them) has been depicted..u want to fall in love with the city, its beaches, buildings belonging to the British Raj, night life.. as Sid says..."Its never too late in Bombay (read Mumbai)".. and its true..

Well i am planning to study for a while today so that i can stop cursing myself for not utilizing the extended weekend... Gud Bye for now.. Have a good day!
